1. Q. What is weaving?

A. Also known as a sew-in-weave, weaving is a commonly used method of installing hair extensions by sewing tracks of hair directly to your cornrows.

2. Q. How long will it take to add extensions to my own hair?

A. Depending on what kind of style you want, a sew-in weave can take between 2-6 hours.

3. Q. Are weaves reusable?

A. Yes, but it depends on the quality level of the hair, and how you take care of your weaves. Some lower grade human hair may not last more than 6-8 weeks, so it is recommended to have it refreshed during wear once or twice, and then replaced with new hair. For reusable hair, Outre’s Velvet Remi, Origin and Simply hair are recommended.

4. Q. After sewing in a weave, how long should I have it in before removing it?

A. Your own natural hair will grow about 1 to 1½ inches every 8 to 12 weeks, so depending on how long you leave it in for, you may need to tighten it or remove it as you desire. For high quality hair, you may have it removed to wash and restore, and then get it weaved in again.

5. Q. How do you remove a sew-in weave?

A. To remove a sew-in weave, you can cut the threads where the weave was sewn on your own; however, it is highly recommended to visit your local professional stylist to have it removed and receive a proper treatment for your scalp & natural hair after a long weaving cycle.

6. Q. Would a sew-in weave damage my natural hair?

A. It should not if it’s done properly. It is important to have a licensed professional stylist to install your weave – someone who can properly diagnose the health of your natural hair and scalp before installing a sew-in weave. Before installation, make sure your scalp is clean and healthy.

7. Q: Do I have to get a lace closure in order to do a full sew-in with no leave out?

A. Not necessarily. A lace closure might be easier to finish, and will look very natural. But there are other methods to complete a full sew-in with no leave out without a lace closure.

8. Q. How long can I leave my weave in for?

A. The answer to this question depends on how fast your natural hair grows, and how well you take care of your extensions.

9. Q. Can you describe the wearing cycle of a weave?

A.

  • Installing the weave can take between 2-6 hours.
  • At least once every 2 weeks, shampoo and condition your weave thoroughly.
  • After 6-8 weeks, relax your edges (if needed), and/or have the weave tightened.
  • After 8-12 weeks, remove the weave and/or deep condition to restore the hair, so you can reinstall it, or simply remove the weave completely.

10. Q. How frequently should I wash and condition my hair?

A. It is recommended to wash and refresh your hair every 2 weeks. For curly textured hair, we would recommend washing it every week because curly hair is naturally drier than other hair textures.

11. Q: Can I use products in the hair after washing my weaves?

A. Yes. We recommend using a non-alcohol based leave-in conditioner or essence spray while the hair is still damp.

12. Q: Can I use a blow dryer after washing my weaves?

A: Whenever possible, always allow the weave to air dry completely. If you would like to speed up drying time, we would recommend using a hood dryer or bonnet dryer.

13. Q. What’s the best product to use to prevent dryness and sustain a soft feeling?

A. For human hair weaves, we recommend using a mild shampoo or sulfate-free shampoo. Avoid using deep cleansing shampoos because they may strip your hair’s cuticles and dry it out. After washing your weave, a deep conditioning treatment is recommended to hydrate your weave. Natural oils such as Argan oil or Moroccan oil is all you need for you daily care.

14. Q. What kind of brush is best for weaves?

A. For straight styles, a soft paddle brush is excellent! For wavy styles, a wide-tooth comb is recommended. And for curly weaves, you do not need to use a brush. Simply finger comb the curls gently. When brushing your hair, always brush or comb from tips to roots to avoid tugging or pulling on the hair.

15. Q. What’s the best way to take care of my curly weave?

A. Curly textured hair is naturally drier than other hair textures, so it needs to be conditioned well with a moisturizing or hydrating conditioner. It’s also important to avoid heat styling tools with curly hair. For more information, visit OutreTalks to learn how to care for curly.

16. Q. Can I use a hairdryer, hot rollers, hot sticks, tongs and other styling tools on my weave?

A. For 100% human hair, yes, you can use all of the above. For synthetic fiber, it depends on the fiber’s heat resistance ability. Some synthetic fiber can be styled using heat styling tools, but others cannot.

17. Q. Will I be limited if I wear a weave?

A. You do not have to limit your lifestyle in any way while wearing a weave. When you are wearing a weave, you can do all of your regular activities including exercising and dancing. However, activities that cause sweating and rubbing will require you to maintain the hair with frequent brushing, especially around the nape and shoulder areas.

Applying natural oils like Argan oil and Moroccan oil in these areas can help reduce the friction that can cause tangling. Avoid any hair sprays and mousse because that can attract dust (due to stickiness), which will mat up the hair.

Long hair will always require more care than short hair. If you plan to be moving around a lot, we recommend making one or two big braids to keep your hair in place during activities such as exercise and sleep.

18. Q. Can I swim while wearing a weave?

A. Yes, you may go swimming in a pool, but we recommend applying a hydrating/moisturizing conditioner to the hair before and after entering the pool to avoid tangling. We also recommend making one or two large braids to keep your hair in place to further avoid tangling.

If you plan to swim in the ocean, we recommend wearing a swimming cap because the ocean’s salt water can be harsh. We also recommend washing and conditioning the hair as soon as you are done swimming.

19. Q. How do I sleep with my weave on?

A. Loosely braid or twist your weave, and wrap the hair in a satin scarf or bonnet before going to bed to keep the hair from tangling overnight.

20. Q. How do I take care of my weave when I workout frequently?

A. Sweat and excessive friction from workout movements can cause hair to tangle and mat up. You should always tie or braid your hair in large sections before working out to prevent tangling and matting.

1. Q. Can I curl or straighten my human hair wig?

A. Yes, you can curl or straighten a human hair wig to achieve the styles you desire. Before using heat styling tools, please use a heat protectant spray on the hair to prevent hair damage from the heat.

2. Q. Can I use hairspray on my human hair wig?

A. We do not recommend using hairspray on your human hair wig because it will cause products to build up on the hair, which can cause tangling and matting issues. If you insist on using it, please wash the wig carefully afterwards to rinse out the product.

3. Q. How often should I wash my human hair wig?

A. We would suggest washing your wig every 10-14 days. The wash cycle also depends on each individual according to how often the wig is worn, what products were applied to the wig, etc.

4. Q. What is the best way to store a wig?

A. We recommend using a wig stand or mannequin head. They will keep the hair from tangling and will help to maintain the shape of the wig cap.

5. Q. How can I make my human hair wig last?

A. For a longer-lasting wig, do not use heavy styling products such as hair mousse, sprays, and oil sheen. Alcohol-based sprays will dry out the hair and cause build-up over the time. It is best to keep the wig in its original condition without applying any products. Finger comb or gently brush through the hair to keep hair strands aligned, and if needed, you can use a light essence spray or compatible wig products for moisture without the stickiness of sprays, or the heaviness of oils. Washing and conditioning your wig is also a very important step to make your human hair wig last longer.

6. Q. Can I curl or straighten my synthetic wig?

A. You can curl or straighten synthetic wigs that are made of heat-resistant fiber. When purchasing a wig, always look for our heat-friendly icon on the packaging of the wig to make sure you can apply heat styling tools to the wig.

7. Q. What is high-tex fiber?

A. High-tex fiber is a heat-friendly synthetic fiber that allows you to use heat styling tools up to 400°F.

8. Q. Can I use hairspray on my synthetic wig?

A. We would not recommend using hairspray on your wig. But if you must do so, please make sure to rinse it out of the wig thoroughly afterwards.

9. Q. How can I make the parting of the wig look more natural?

A. You can apply concealer to the parting area of the wig so that the parting looks more natural and closer to your own skin color. You can also tweeze the hair around the parting area for a more natural look as well.

10. Q. Can I color my synthetic wig?

A. Many of our synthetic wigs come in a wide variety of vibrant colors, so you do not have to color it!

11. Q. What’s the best way to store a synthetic wig?

A. We recommend using a wig stand or mannequin head. They will keep the hair from tangling and will help to maintain the shape of the wig cap.

12. Q. How can I make my synthetic wig last?

A: Synthetic wigs are meant to be worn for a short period of time, depending on how often you wear the wig. The average lifetime of synthetic wigs is around 3-5 weeks. However, if the wig is worn less frequently and is well maintained, the life of the wig can be increased.

For a longer-lasting synthetic wig, do not use hair products such as hair mousse, sprays, and oil sheen. Alcohol-based sprays will dry out the hair and cause build-up. It is best to keep the wig in its original condition without applying any products. Finger comb or gently brush through the hair to keep hair strands aligned, and if needed, you can use a light essence spray or compatible wig products for moisture without the stickiness of sprays, or the heaviness of oils.

13. Q. How can I avoid stress and thinning around the perimeter of my head when wearing half-wigs?

A. We recommend taking a break from wearing half-wigs for at least a couple of days if you notice any stress or thinning. Stress on your own hair will need proper recovery time.

1. Q: How long can I keep braids in for?

A: No longer than 3 months. Your natural hair (new growth) will get twisted and start to lock on its own after about a 3 month period. This will cause a lot of breakage, which can lead to severe hair loss.

2. Q: How many packs do I need to complete a style?

A: It varies widely depending on the thickness, length, and style you are looking for. Typically, it could range from 4 packs to 13 packs. We would recommend consulting a professional braider on the type of braid and quantity needed for the specific style you are looking for.

3. Q: How often should I wash my hair while wearing braids?

A: We recommend washing your hair every 3-4 weeks or more frequently as needed to keep your scalp clean and moisturized. It is recommended that you visit a professional braider or stylist for a more thorough wash.

4. Q: How long does it take for braids to dry completely?

A: It generally takes 2-4 hours depending on the thickness and length of the braids – thicker & longer will take more time to dry. After washing, pat dry or gently squeeze the braids with a towel, and allow the hair to air dry completely.

5. Q: Is there a lot of hair breakage when removing braids?

A: There should not be any breakage if the braids are properly unraveled slowly and carefully. However, you may find some natural hair shedding, which can look like breakage.

6. Q: Do braids weaken your natural hair?

A: Braids are a great protective style and should not weaken your natural hair with proper care. However, it is very important to take breaks in-between braids to give your hair rest, and prevent any future weakening.
